Cowboy Junkies — Miles From Our Home (June 30, 1998) |
Cowboy Junkies — Miles From Our Home (June 30, 1998) ♦♣♦» “I wish I had a blue guitar/A blue guitar to play all night long/Singing songs of loss and love/Singing songs...‘til morning comes.” To lze snad přičíst rychlejším tempům některých písní. Cowboy Junkies udělali kariéru z písní o lásce, ztrátě a osamělosti, a toto album není výjimkou. Ve čtvrtek 7. května 2015 byli uvedeni do Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. Byli hlavní hvězdou historického klubu CBGB v New Yorku, hráli na Grammy on the Hill ve Washingtonu k poctě kongresmanky Mary Bono a hráli na mnoha dalších ikonických místech, včetně Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Massey Hall a s The Boston Pops v Symphony Hall. Procestovali toho moc a sdíleli pódium s esy jako John Prine, Sting, Townes Van Zandt, Elvis Costello a Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Soporific Canadian country dream poppers, captured Americana imagination in the late–1980s & early–‘90s. It was their second and final album for Geffen Records. Like all of their albums after 1988’s The Trinity Session, it was only a modest success internationally. However, the title track was a significant hit in their native Canada.Formed: 1985 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

» Working with producer John Leckie on Miles from Our Home has enlivened the Cowboy Junkies’ trademark lackadaisical style somewhat. Replacing the group’s calm, minimalist sound with a polished production, Leckie manages to make the record sound unlike anything else in the band’s catalog. That’s not to say that there’s no trace of the old style — he has simply updated their sound, bringing it in line with adult alternative pop that they played a part in establishing in the late ‘80s. If the results aren’t as magical as The Trinity Sessions, they’re far from disappointing. Margo Timmins’ voice remains as enchanting as ever and her brother Michael Timmins’ songs are sturdy. There might not be any masterpieces on Miles from Our Home, but there aren’t any misfires, either — it’s simply a solid album from a reliable band.
