                                              Julia Lockhart bassoon
■★♠      A native of Calgary, Julia Lockhart has been a member of the VSO bassoon section since 2002, and became Principal Bassoon in 2005.  She is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon and a Diploma in harpsichord.   Her Master of Music was completed through studies at Yale School of Music and the University of British Columbia.  Julia has studied with bassoonists Bernard Garfield, Nadina Mackie Jackson, Jesse Read, Frank Morelli and Michael Hope. 
■★♠      As a teacher, Julia has served on the faculty of the University of British Columbia, the Vancouver Academy of Music, and the VSO School of Music.  She has given guest master classes at the University of Toronto, UBC, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Mount Royal University in Calgary. 
■★♠      A dedicated chamber musician, Julia is a founding member of the Harlequin Bassoon Quartet, which performs many types of repertoire ranging from Renaissance to jazz, cabaret, popular, and new music.  She has done arrangements for solo bassoon with piano, with classical guitar, and for bassoon quartet.  Julia is also assisting in an ongoing music publishing project with Prof. Jesse Read of UBC. 
■★♠      In her spare time, Julia enjoys working as an apprentice woodwind repair technician, having repaired dozens of clarinets played by band students in the Vancouver area.
