≡≡ Album znovu zkoumá pojetí pohledu na svět a jeho jednoty, jakožto jakési globální vesnice. Tak to Metheny dělal už předtím na albech “Letter from Home” a “We Live Here”.
♠≡ Ideou alba z hudebního hlediska je zachování koncepce Unity bandu a posunutí o trochu dál, takže v jádru bude větší prostor pro orchestraci, tím by KIN mohlo být jako Technicolor, IMAX .
♠≡ V tabulce uvádím přijetí alba na celém světě. Z tabulky jasně vyplývá, že jednoznačně bylo přijato v USA, kde v US Billboard 200 zaujalo pozici #50, mezi jazzovými alby dokonce zvítězilo (#1). Ve zbytku světa se překvapivě dostalo do první dvacítky pouze v Itálii (#14) a tuto metu jen těsně líže v Polsku (#21).
♠≡ Metheny je jedním z prvních jazzových kytaristů, který začal používat kytarový syntezátor Roland GR–300. Zatímco John Abercrombie a Bill Frisell kytarové syntezátory Roland používají také, Metheny je pouze jedním ze tří, kteří ho používají dodnes a pravidelně. Na rozdíl od mnoha uživatelů, Metheny se omezuje na velmi malý počet zvuků. V rozhovorech argumentoval, že s každou z barev, dosažitelných přes kytarové syntézy by se mělo zacházet jako se samostatným nástrojem a že on se pokusil ovládnout každý z těchto ‘nástrojů’, namísto užívání syntezátoru pro případnou další barvu. Tento nástroj se mj vyznačuje 6–ti hlasou polyfonií a dvěma oscilátory pro hlas. Doba odezvy je v něm 3.32 ms.

♠≡ Despite the innovation, many PMG fans have nostalgically longed for the return of more accessible material. Kin (), the Unity Band’s sophomore outing, should please fans of all Metheny stripes. The band is now a quintet with multi–instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi. He plays piano, strings, brass, winds, vibes, voice, and more. While the frontline remains the guitarist and Potter, the rhythm section of Williams and Sanchez is fluid in earthy and ethereal modes, seamlessly providing grooves and force, often simultaneously. Carmassi’s contributions balance melody, form, texture, and interactive dynamics. Metheny's ability to convey an almost hummable sense of melodic euphoria was at the heart of the PMG’s sound.

♠≡ The Pat Metheny Unity Group will tour to 44 cities throughout North America this winter, beginning February 3, then tour Europe from April through June.
♠≡ Metheny says of this new Group, “The core quartet of Chris, Ben, Antonio, and me played more than 100 concerts over the year that followed the release of our Unity Band record. Over the course of that period, the band became one of those rare combinations of players where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; it gelled in every way, and that just seemed to beg for expansion and further research.” He continues, “Simultaneously, I had been itching to write using more of a lush and orchestrated kind of concept that went beyond the sonic limits of what a straight–ahead quartet might invoke. But I really didn’t want to lose the energy, focus, and intensity of what this band had developed. I wanted to take it further.
