≡    Andrea ‘Dre’ Babinski má šumný hlas, který se táhne skrz a nad jejími melodiemi pohodově zpěvných, snově~omámených popových variací krásy. Se zalíbením, afinitou pro smyčcová aranžmá přidává hluboké, bluesově šmrcnuté linky k jejímu obrazu, vzbuzující zvědavost, jak se příběh vyvine, např. ve druhé ‘Your Version of Me’. Každému přeji zažít tu vlídnost v hlase, prostorově široký obraz, kde práce bicích a basy s intervaly a přechody působí lehce, intuitivně jako akvarelový štětec přes prázdný portrét. Babinski má sladší sound a dotek hlučné samoty, jejíž texty lehce přiléhají k zemi za tmavší odstín barikády, než kdysi vrhali Belle And Sebastian. „I cheat, I blame, I piss away / But here you stay, oh what to make?“, páč v ní se to rozzáří, pak přechází na úvahu, jak se jeví v očích druhého a jak vidí sama sebe.
Uzavřela své působení v Anaheim (CA) založené kapele Dusty Rhodes and the River Band a hned se pro ní otevřela vyhlídka vystupovat před Fitz and the Tantrums (druh kapely, která komunikuje nejlépe na koncertě / US Billboard 200 #17). Pak se spojila s producentem Gus Seyffertem (působil pro umělce jako: Beck, The Black Keys, Flight of the Conchords (album), Roger Waters (Is This the Life We Really Want?), Sia (We Are Born), Andra Day (Cheers to the Fall), Benji Hughes (A Love Extreme) a mnoho dalších). S arzenálem osobního materiálu Andrea Babinski vypiplala svůj sólový debut „Under the Influence“ a dodala devět songů v jemných, vířících melodií.
Vrcholem je New Haven. A pak si uvědomíte, že je to její vliv, pod kterým jste sám. Pochopitelně, přispívají k tomu delikátní rockové beaty. Teď už by si zřejmě nepřála, aby na ní někdo vrhl kbelík vody.
Terror
≡    Poté, co jí pomohl sólový projekt Steady Holiday během breakoutu roku 2016, se Dre Babinski probudila 9. listopadu s potřebou odpovědi. Tři nové skladby byly napsány za měsíc a další brzy nahrány, přičemž každá se různými způsoby zabývá naší novou realitou, shromážděnou zde na  EP Terror. Úžasný remix a domácí nahrávka nové, nadějné písně osvětlují cestu vpřed. Featuring Josh Adams (Jenny Lewis), opět produkoval Gus Seyffert. Terror EP je k mání mimo jiné prostřednictvím labelu Infinite Best (Mr Twin Sister, Islands) a CD kombinuje s debutovým LP Under the Influence.
iTunes Review
≡    Dre Babinski’s seductive and sweeping dream~pop steps into the spotlight. The LA musician’s hushed, baroque delivery stuns across ghostly Cali~psych analogue meanderings (daintily perfect on “Your Version of Me”) and delicate rock beats (the Western swagger and soaring strings of “No Matter”). „Hold me down in open water, it gives me such a rush,“ she sighs on seductive opening track. Under the Influence gives you just that rush.

≡    Steady Holiday is Los Angeles~based musician Dre Babinski’s coming~out party after a career of playing alongside the likes of fun. and Fitz and the Tantrums. But Under the Influence, Steady Holiday’s terse full~length, compels because of the way it holds the listener at a distance.
≡    Shrouded in gentle waves of fuzzed~out guitars and glossy string arrangements, Babinski often serves as her own Greek chorus, tracking her voice on songs like the dreamlife fantasia ‘No Matter’ and the bedheaded, regretful ‘Your Version of Me’ so that it sounds as if she’s commanding a clutch of ghosts in order to accurately depict her melancholia. It makes for a heady experience; even when the drums are crisp and the violins (played by Babinski herself) have a precision to their swoop, much of Under the Influence recalls whispering breezes and rippling ponds, gentle reminders of tumult held elsewhere.
≡    Babinski usually avoids vibrato, instead taking on a vocal affect that brings to mind Trish Keenan’s matter~of~fact gloominess. But those moments when she falters bring the rest of the record into sharp focus. On the first~slow~dance shuffle „So Long,“ she sings of bruises and endings; at one point, her voice buckles, sounding like she’s about to rupture her cool façade and adding emotional heft to the album’s free~floating grey cloud.

≡    Dre Babinski has a murmuring voice that drifts over her lo~fi, dream~daze pop melodies. With an affinity for string arrangements, she adds deep, bluesy lines to her reveries, each strum or pluck like a watercolor brushstroke across a blank portrait. Babinksi has a head~in~the~clouds sound, sweet and a touch hazy, whose lyrics are lightly tethered to the earth for their darker tint. „I cheat, I blame, I piss away / But here you stay, oh what to make?“ she coos airily on „Your Version of Me,“ ruminating on how she appears in another’s eyes, and how she’s come to see herself. The world of her imagination may be lush and inviting, but at times a wind picks up and rustles through — a chill that momentarily draws you away from any sort of rose~colored spell, affirming Babinksi isn’t all pleasantries wrapped in a Luna Lovegood pitch. There’s more to her than that.
≡    Before striking out on her own under the moniker Steady Holiday, Babinski was a touring ensemble musician. She rounded out LA~based band Dusty Rhodes and opened for indie mainstay Fitz and the Tantrums, before pairing up with the producer Gus Seyffert (who has lent a hand to artists like Beck and The Black Keys). With an arsenal of personal material, Babinksi cultivated her solo debut, Under the Influence, and has delivered nine tracks of nightingale singing and gentle, swirling melodies. Babinski revealed to Stereogum that the title was inspired by the 1974, woman~in~the~attic~esque film A Woman Under the Influence — which (spoilers ahead) ends with a woman’s stifling domesticity funneling her into a psychiatric ward. Babinksi drenches these more ominous tones in the honeyed twirls of her instruments and voice, catching the familiar, eerie quality of a child’s music box twinkling in the night.
≡    Tracks like „When I See Color“ highlight Babinski’s string section prowess, featuring an acoustic plucking and sliding before her lightweight voice drifts in, „Do you ever put something on a list just to check it off / Simple pleasures like decent weather / Do you ever set alarms in your sleep so you don’t have to dream?“ It’s full of wandering thoughts that at times roll into deeper, more grounded observations, because as much as Babinksi has a sweet trill that could comfort an inconsolable child, her daydreams are not cartoonish.
≡    Her album’s titular track has a more sauntering mood (rightly so), not exactly ominous, but perhaps more on the brink of being carnal. She takes her time with each line, drawing out syllables to higher pitches, particularly the line, „What to do?“ which stretches into the next stanza. „Trust me I’m a decent animal / You have to tell me when I’m full,“ Babinski sings loftily,  before ending, „You may choose between yourself or me / Who will destroy you?“ The words sink in so easily that you don’t immediately understand the proposition. And then you realize, it’s her influence you’re under.
