¶  Real World Records is re-releasing some of Joseph’s music as part of their Real World Gold series.
¶  Come to Where I’m From and the Junkyard Heart‘s EP’s will both be re-released on July 30th in Europe, with early sales happening at WOMAD Charlton Park on July 27-29.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
¶  Two years on from Come To Where I'm From - and proving that he's ever his own man - Joseph released a quartet of EPs (under the collective name of Junkyard Hearts) that were only available on his UK tour of 2002. A decade on, these scarce-as-hen's-teeth recordings are being reissued in two-CD set, allowing those unable to attend that tour the chance to give some love to these half-forgotten gems. They very much demand your attention - 19 confirmations of a man at the peak of his substantial powers.
PRESS:
¶  'An oddball songsmith who eaves words, guitars and a whole heap of discordant sounds into songs that hang around your head long after they finish'   - Uncut
Joseph Arthur’s music has been described as “a dynamic swirl of noise that somehow appears magically around him” (NPR), “emotional (but tuneful) exorcisms” (Entertainment Weekly), and “lush, poetic, squalling, spiritual, and strange. Just like life” (Boston Globe). Vanity Fair has hailed him as “one of our most emotionally revealing and talented singer-songwriters.” Michael Stipe once told the Los Angeles Times, “Jo is one of those rare writer-performers where you get the sense, whatever you believe, that something greater is being channeled through his music and voice…It touches something very deep and universal.”

¶  Arthur is also an acclaimed painter and designer. His artwork has graced the sleeves of his entire discography; the sleeve design for his 1999 extended play Vacancy was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.
Lyrics:
The Coldest Sea
Junkyard Hearts 1 (Real World) 2002

And you've always been a refugee
Going back the way you came
And even though you are much older now
In your heart you feel the same

Tell me are you used to it
Swimming in the coldest sea
And if you hide your memory
Could you open up your heart
To a world that tore you apart
To a world that tore you

And you always followed everyone
Never wanting to stand out
And every time there was you tried to run
Ended up you falling down

Tell me are you used to it
Swimming in the coldest sea
And if you hide your memory
Could you open up your heart
To a world that tore you apart
To a world that tore you
To a world that tore you apart
To a world that tore you
