Product Description:
√  Highly anticipated new album from Lady Maisery. An ambitious album that challenges perspectives of what a harmony group can be; includes their version of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work." "Mayday" is the bold and highly anticipated new album from Lady Maisery. Followup to their hit debut album 'Weave & Spin' (nominated best debut at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Album of the Week in The Independent). A daring collection of stories about different human struggles, 'Mayday' is a collection of songs that lament personal tragedies to expose a wider social injustice, revealing the determination of the human spirit and the persistence of life. A new maturity marks their muscular instrumental sound, lending new power to their arresting vocal delivery. √  Throughout the album, instruments are used to captivating effect, whether it is the raw, driving fiddle, the lyrical harp or lilting banjo. However, it is Lady Maisery's voices which are at the heart of this album, which demonstrates their remarkable ability to blend and sing as one. "Mayday" is an ambitious album that challenges perspectives of what a harmony singing group can be and proves that Lady Maisery can't be simply pigeon-holed as a harmony trio; they are a group that takes risks and pushes boundaries, and are a powerful force to be reckoned with on the folk scene.
√  "Lady Maisery is a new vocal trio from Hannah James (Kerfuffle, Hannah James and Sam Sweeney, Demon Barbers), Hazel Askew (The Askew Sisters) and Rowan Rheingans (Fidola.) Inspired by folk singing traditions of the UK and northern Europe, Lady Maisery sing songs and ballads both unaccompanied, and with backing from their combined instrumental talents on accordion, harp and fiddle."
In french:
√  Un très bel album de folk "so british!" avec de magnifiques harmonies vocales féminines.

√  This week sees Lady Maisery set out on an ambitious 22 date tour across England and Scotland. It’s the biggest tour yet for the band, who have been creating a stir on the folk scene ever since the release of their debut album ‘Weave & Spin’ in 2011. The album was declared an ‘Album of the Week’ in The Independent and earned them Best Debut nominations at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and the Spiral Awards. Since then they’ve had a busy year of touring, festival appearances and live performances on BBC Radio 3 and 4, and they have quickly gone from highly promising newcomers to cementing their reputation as one of the best live bands on the folk scene today.
√  During the tour, Lady Maisery will be previewing material from their highly anticipated second album Mayday, which is to be released in June 2013. The album is a collection of stories about different human struggles that remain relevant today and demonstrates how Lady Maisery have evolved and are pushing boundaries with their distinctive style of folk music. Mayday will also include This Woman’s Work, their acclaimed Kate Bush cover which was released as a single for International Women’s Day earlier this year, with all profits going to the End Violence Against Women Coalition.
