Notes:
Peter Chilvers is best known for creating the acclaimed iPhone applications Bloom and Trope with Brian Eno, with whom he has also worked as a musical and technical assistant on projects including the soundtracks to The Lovely Bones and Spore, the collaboration with David Byrne and the Warp releases "Small Craft on a Milk Sea" and "Drums Between the Bells"?. He has regularly collaborated with No-Man vocalist Tim Bowness, most notably on their 2001 album "California, Norfolk", and more recently as Slow Electric. He has recorded several solo instrumental albums, and created the improvising collective A Marble Calm. Many of his albums have been released through Burning Shed, the online label he co-founded in 2001 with Bowness and Pete Morgan.
In addition to her studio albums with Letka, Sandra O'Neill is currently recording her debut solo album showcasing her layered vocals and guitars, and has contributed lead and backing vocals to numerous albums, most recently Jorge Mantas of The Beautiful Schizophonic. Her guest appearance with ambient collective A Marble Calm, was described by Brian Eno as 'heart-breakingly beautiful'. In 2009 she collaborated with Chilvers on the iPhone app "Air". Based on concepts developed by Brian Eno, Air assembles vocal and piano samples into a beautiful, still and ever changing composition, which is always familiar, but never the same.
Their previous collaborations include the albums Embers and Nightshift, released as Alias Grace on Burning Shed and appearances with ambient collective A Marble Calm and Italian progressive musician Stefano Panunzi.
They will be promoting the album in late 2011 with live performances and sessions, joined by violin virtuoso Steve Bingham (No-Man).

Far Off Country is the debut album from Letka. A collaboration between Irish vocalist Sandra O’Neill and English multi-instrumentalist Peter Chilvers with a guest appearance from Brian Eno, it takes the country genre and reinvents it with a post-ambient palette.
From the album’s opening Beyond the Fold, featuring backing vocals and production from Eno, to the epic closing track I Dream a Highway, the six spacious tracks are a seamless blend of original compositions, reinterpreted country songs and cover versions. With rich sensual vocals, treated guitars, pedal steel and electronic textures, Far Off Country is a warm reflection of the desolate landscapes of the Mid West.
Letka’s wide-ranging influences include Beth Gibbons, Elbow, Jane Siberry, Daniel Lanois, Joni Mitchell and Lambchop. Their previous collaborations include the albums Embers and Nightshift, released as Alias Grace on the Burning Shed label.

Irish Times / Tony Clayton-Lea
“This album is cleverly titled: the music here could easily be termed alt.country if it weren’t for the genre-shifting presence of Irish singer Sandra O’Neill, a guesting Brian Eno and multi- instrumentalist Peter Chilvers (better known, perhaps, for co-creating, with Eno, the iPhone apps Bloom and Trope). Their collective take on, for example, country standard Banks of the Ohio and John Denver’s Country Roads , offers a far more intuitive understanding of the lyrics than you would think; ditto their versions of Elbow’s Not a Job and Gillian Welch’s I Dream a Highway (clocking in at a wonderfully spooky 14 minutes). Eno adds his own singular ambience on Beyond the Fold , while a second original song, Another Town , benefits from the kind of sepulchral twang we haven’t heard since Cowboy Junkies removed the bullets from their pistols.”

Daily Telegraph, “A Feast of Folk music” / Martin Chilton
“…Another strong new release is Far Off Country by Letka, which features Sandra O’Neill’s singing and Peter Chilvers instrumental talents. There are distinct Daniel Lanois influences and the first track, Beyond The Fold, is produced and mixed by Brian Eno. There is a slick version of the traditional country song Banks Of The Ohio and a unusual version of John Denver’s Take Me Home Country Roads. My all-time favourite version of this song is the pacy, country one by Ray Charles but Letko offer an unusual slow, gospel-like version that is languid and engaging. Although there are only six tracks – including a version of Elbow’s Not a Job – the CD runs in at over 40 minutes, partly due to a bold 14-minute take on Gillian Welch’s I Dream A Highway.”

“Letka are the acclaimed collaboration between Irish vocalist Sandra O’Neil and English muliti instrumentalist Peter Chilvers. Don’t expect straightforward folk though- their music is tinged with electronic ambience and they feature Brian Eno on their album.” © Peter Chilvers; Photo by Dion Johnson © Sandra O´Neill; Author: Dion Johnsonteve Bingham; Author: Dion Johnson
