Mark Lanegan — Straight Songs Of Sorrow (8th May, 2020)USA FLAG Mark Lanegan — Straight Songs Of Sorrow (8th May, 2020)   Mark Lanegan — Straight Songs Of Sorrow (8th May, 2020)•♠•   Doprovázeno knihou „Sing Backwards and Weep“, která má realizaci dnes, 28. dubna.
•♠•   Straight Songs Of Sorrow kombinuje hudební stopové prvky z raných alb Marka Lanegana se syntetizovanými konstrukty pozdější práce. Meditativní akustické kytarové fingerpicking — poskytované Markem Mortonem z Lamb Of God’s — ve druhé „Apples From A Tree“ a dvanácté „Hanging On (For DRC)“ je ozvěnou alba „Whiskey For The Holy Ghost“ [druhé sólové studiové album, vydané 18. ledna 1994 v Sub Pop]. Jedním z prubířských kámenů této nahrávky bylo album „Astral Weeks“ od Van Morrisona, kde opět ozvěnou je otvírák nového alba „I Wouldn’t Want To Say“, kde Lanegan extemporuje *à la „Ballerina“ /sedmá na Astral Weeks/ přes vzor musique concrète, generovaný jeho nejnovějším oblíbeným kompozičním nástrojem, miniaturním počítačem — synťákem, nazvaným Organelle.
•♠•   When considering any great work of art, be it a painting, a novel, or a piece of music, it’s natural to wonder what might have inspired it: ‘the story behind the song’. Mark Lanegan’s new album, Straight Songs Of Sorrow, flips that equation. Here are 15 songs inspired by a story: his life story, as documented by his own hand in his new memoir, Sing Backwards And Weep.
•♠•   Straight Songs Of Sorrow combines musical trace elements from early Mark Lanegan albums with the synthesized constructs of later work. The meditative acoustic guitar fingerpicking — provided by Lamb Of God’s Mark Morton — on Apples From A Tree and Hanging On (For DRC) echo 1994’s Whiskey For The Holy Ghost. Yet one of that record’s touchstones was Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, echoed in the new album’s opener I Wouldn’t Want To Say, where Lanegan extemporises *à la Ballerina over musique concrète wave patterns generated by his latest favourite compositional tool, a miniature computer~synth called the Organelle. Mark LaneganBorn: 25 November 1964 in Ellensburg, WA

•♠•   Following the success of last year’s ‘Somebody’s Knocking’ LP, Mark Lanegan has announced the news of his new solo album, ‘Straight Songs Of Sorrow’, released 8th May.
•♠•   The album, which is closely aligned to his forthcoming memoir, “Sing Backwards And Weep”, features guest appearances from Greg Dulli, Warren Ellis, John Paul Jones, Ed Harcourt and more.
•♠•   The first pressing will be a crystal clear vinyl edition. Double Vinyl — Gatefold — Downloads available with each LP purchase. Standard CD also available.
•♠•   The book is a brutal, nerve~shredding read, thanks to Lanegan’s unsparing candour in recounting a journey from troubled youth in eastern Washington, through his drug~stained existence amid the ’90s Seattle rock scene, to an unlikely salvation at the dawn of the 21st century. There’s death and tragedy, yet also humour and hope, thanks to the tenacity which impels its host, even at his lowest moments.
•♠•   ‘Straight Songs Of Sorrow’ combines musical trace elements from early Mark Lanegan albums with the synthesized constructs of later work. The album feels both definitive and unique, a culmination of its creator’s arc yet also indicative of the energy that drives him onto future horizons. No wonder Lanegan is proud.
BOOK
•♠•   “Mark Lanegan~primitive, brutal, and apocalyptic. What’s not to love?” Nick Cave, author of The Sick Bag Song and The Death of Bunny Munro From the back of the van to the front of the bar, from the hotel room to the emergency room, onstage, backstage, and everywhere in between, Sing Backwards and Weep reveals the abrasive reality beneath one of the most romanticized decades in rock history~from a survivor who lived to tell the tale. When Mark Lanegan first arrived in Seattle in the mid~1980s, he was just “an arrogant, self~loathing redneck waster seeking transformation through rock ‘n’ roll.” Within less than a decade, he would rise to fame as the front man of the Screaming Trees, then fall from grace as a low~level crack dealer and a homeless heroin addict, all the while watching some of his closest friends rocket to the pinnacle of popular music. In Sing Backwards and Weep, Lanegan takes readers back to the sinister, needle~ridden streets of Seattle, to an alternative music scene that was simultaneously bursting with creativity and saturated with drugs. He tracks the tumultuous rise and fall of the Screaming Trees, from a brawling, acid~rock bar band to world~famous festival favourites with an enduring legacy that still resonates. Lanegan’s personal struggles with addiction, culminating in homelessness, petty crime, and the tragic deaths of his closest friends, is documented with a painful honesty and pathos. Gritty, gripping, and unflinchingly raw, Sing Backwards and Weep is a book about more than just an extraordinary singer who watched his dreams catch fire and incinerate the ground beneath his feet. Instead, it’s about a man who learned how to drag himself from the wreckage, dust off the ashes, and keep living and creating.
