Notes:
≡   Moonface is yet another outlet for the dark indie sounds of prolific Montreal musician Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown.
≡   The lyrical theme of Moonface's With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery, recorded with Helsinki prog kraut rock band Siinai, is heartbreak. According to Krug, it was not planned, but became obvious halfway through the writing process. Some recently battered, still mildly swollen heart snuck its way into the first lyrics written, so he went with it. He wrote songs based on his own experiences with heartache, stories told to him by friends, and drummed up scenarios of ill-fated love that were absolute fiction. ≡   Altogether, the inevitability of life's flawed and failed relationships, the shitty feelings we feel as a result, and the people we become (ugly, brave, violent, crawling like babies back toward the womb) while trying to deal with those feelings are the ideas explored in these songs. It is not a particularly original theme, but one Krug felt worth digging into, perhaps deeper than he ever has before.

≡   Moonface, the solo project of Spencer Krug (ex-Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown), has announced his next full length LP. Julia with Blue Jeans On will be out October 29 via Jagjaguwar.
≡   Julia began while Krug was living in Helsinki, Finland, where he also worked with Finnish band Siinai on 2012′s Heartbreaking Bravery (Review by Lindsay Zoladz; April 16, 2012; Rating: 7.1 / http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16495-moonface-with-siinai-heartbreaking-bravery/).
≡   For his latest project, Krug abandons the instruments and effects he used during his years in Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown. There are no programmed beats, buttons to push, distortion, or overdubs. ‘Julia with Blue Jeans On’ is just a piano and his voice.
≡   It’s less noisy, more straightforward music — a Krug-described love record. ‘Julia with Blue Jeans On’s no-barriers approach brings a degree of intimacy and self-reflection unlike anything he has produced to date.

Artist Biography by Fred Thomas
≡   Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-DrumsMoonface began in 2010 as a solo project of already incredibly busy Montreal, Canada multi-instrumentalist Spencer Krug. Krug was at that point perhaps best known as the pianist, singer, and a primary songwriter for indie bands Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, but has also logged time with Frog Eyes, Swan Lake, Fifths of Seven, and more. The incredibly prolific songwriter used Moonface as an outlet for his dark pop and melodious experiments that didn't fit with any of his various other more collaborative projects. The project debuted in recorded form with 2010's Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums on the Jagjaguwar label, followed the next year by the full-length Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped. Moonface's second album, Heartbreaking Bravery, was released in 2012. Krug traveled to Finland to record the album with Helsinki band Siinai, who had toured Europe with Wolf Parade in 2009. Krug sang and played keyboards on the album, with Siinai filling out its moody compositions.
