Dreams Of Death And Other Favourites

My Autumn Empire — Dreams Of Death And Other Favourites (November 13, 2015)

My Autumn Empire — Dreams Of Death And Other Favourites •   Síla tohoto alba spočívá v jeho schopnosti vyvolat pocit idylické Anglie s mírným obsahem dystopianu k dosažení mimo–pozemského pocitu. Titulní skladba určuje příjemný dotek poetiky, objevený už před časem ve rodinných věcech Mac DeMarca a Connan Mockasina, dokonce snad i nepatrné stopové zbytky The Beatles. Později velmi rozmanité referenční/triangulační body klouzají po vrstevnicích ELO, 10cc, Sparklehorse a The Wedding Present. Lehce nadprůměrné album.   Born: October 1981

≡≈≡   Now available as 12" heavy weight black vinyl with full colour sleeve, or beautifully illustrated gatefold wallet CD!
≡≈≡   This release marks a departure from the rich multi–layered classic pop sound of ‘The Visitation’ (2014), which garnered favourable reviews and BBC radio play, and instead presents lo–fi song fragments which inhabit the, at times strange, space between experimental folk , post–rock and alternative indie.
≡≈≡   A preview of the album was sent to BBC broadcaster Stephen McCauley, who dubbed ‘Dreams of Death and Other Favourites’ as “Stunning” and gave the track ‘Garden Echoes’ its first radio play on his Soundscapes show.
≡≈≡   Holton wrote the album on acoustic guitar, often recording directly onto 4–track, utilising dusty analogue circuitry to filter and process certain elements. By interspersing lyric with instrumental passages akin to his work as epic45, Holton arrived at an impressionistic version of the My Autumn Empire sound.
≡≈≡   The title ‘Dreams of Death and Other Favourites’ reflects the nature of the album and seeks to illustrate and explore the themes of memory and nightmare. The artwork juxtaposes photography by Holton and drawings created by the talented CSD Illustration.

BIOGRAPHY
≡≈≡   Exquisite guitar melodies, haunted acoustics and beautifully deconstructed pop sensibilities, are at work to create My Autumn Empire’s unique sound.
≡≈≡   My Autumn Empire is the dream–pop and folk project of self taught multi–instrumentalist and producer Benjamin Thomas Holton, who hails from England’s landlocked Staffordshire. Benjamin crafted his solo sound whilst composing works as a founding member of accomplished post–rock experimenters epic45 and combined those fundamentals with his inherent love of folk and classic pop. He has previously worked with July Skies, Bibio, Stephen Jones (Babybird), Hood and Ian Crause (Disco Inferno).
≡≈≡   You can definitely hear similarities to Granddaddy’s production work, Euros Childs’ folk pop explorations and the guitar renderings of David Pajo (Papa M, Slint et al) but My Autumn Empire goes further; deconstructing the song format, and presenting, at times, haunted vignettes which draw from the exposure to scary British children’s television of the 1980s and numerous BFI releases. Further inspiration comes from the great British horror fiction writers M.R James and Robert Aickman.
≡≈≡   An early incarnation of My Autumn Empire, first played live in Japan, while on tour in 2008. Other notable live performances have taken place at  Rock–o–Rama, Toulon and Union Chapel, London.
≡≈≡   Simon Raymonde, Head of label at Bella Union and a founding member of Cocteau Twins (one of Benjamin’s favourite bands) recently played tracks from the 2014 album ‘The Visitation’ on his Amazing Radio Show. As well as being played by 6music’s Gideon Coe and Tom Ravenscroft that same year, and receiving continued support with radio–play by the BBC’s Stephen McCauley.
My Autumn Empire releases to date:
≡≈≡   The Village Compass (2010)
≡≈≡   II (2012)
≡≈≡   The Visitation (2014)
≡≈≡   Dreams of Death and Other Favourites (tbc 2015)
