Noveller — Fantastic Planet (January 27, 2015) •→ Sarah Lipstate vytváří fascinující zvukové krajiny — pomocí slew pedálů, boomerang looperu a kytar Fender Jazzmaster nebo Jaguar.
“Používá kytaru způsobem, prozkoumávajícím zvukové území a soundscapes podobné těm z poloviny 70. let a experimentům Briana Ena a Roberta Frippa z King Crimson.”
•→ Fantastic Planet is the soaring, evocative new album from Noveller, the solo instrumental venture of Austin~based composer and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. The LP is a journey through eclectic sonic terrain, blending rich waves of synth with soaring cinematic guitar lines, guiding the listener through Noveller’s most diverse and compelling release to date.
√ “I’m excited to post the first trailer for The Truth About Emanuel featuring one of the compositions that I wrote for the film score. Enjoy!” — Sarah Lipstate

•→ Mastered by Brian Pyle. √ Noveller is the solo electric guitar project of Brooklyn~based composer and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. Handling the guitar as her muse, Lipstate summons a sonic palette so rich as to challenge the listener to conceive of how it’s housed in a single instrument manipulated by a solitary performer. Her one~woman guitar soundscapes have captured the attention of NPR, The Village Voice, Time Out New York, and The Wall Street Journal. She has written original music in collaboration with composer Nathan Larson for several feature film scores. In 2012, The D.C. based ensemble, Low End String Quartet, premiered her commissioned piece for quartet, “Into the Midnight Sun,” at the Reston Community Center in Reston, VA. Noveller has toured the U.S. and internationally, at times supporting acts such as Xiu Xiu, the Jesus Lizard, U.S. Girls, Aidan Baker, and Emeralds. Lipstate has collaborated with several renowned musicians, including live improvised duo performances with Carla Bozulich (Evangelista, The Geraldine Fibbers), David Wm. Sims (the Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid), and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth). She has previously performed as a member of Cold Cave, Parts & Labor, and One Umbrella. Lipstate has also participated in Rhys Chatham’s Guitar Army, Ben Frost’s “Music for 6 Guitars” Ensemble, and Glenn Branca’s 100 guitar ensemble. Photo by Alexis Fleisig.

√ Following the success of this year’s ‘Fantastic Planet’, Noveller returns with two earlier records that will be reissued through Fire Records. The reissues include breakthrough record ‘Glacial Glow’ originally released in 2011 as a limited edition release on Weird Forest and her sixth full length album ‘No Dreams’.
√ “Noveller is the nom de musique of Sarah Lipstate, whose precise compositions build on a cathartic repetition of righteous riff action coloured with gorgeous loopingfuckdoodlery and noise gush,” explains The Village Voice in introducing her album ‘Glacial Glow’. The more mannered Wall Street Journal likens her “use of her guitar to explore sonic territory similar to the mid~70s experiments of Brian Eno and King Crimson Robert Fripp.” They only touch on the unique way that Lipstate interacts with her Fender Jaguar and a layout of pedals that Guitar Player has run extensive features and analysis on. Red Bull went on to anoint her one of the Best 30 Guitarists Under 30. With ‘Glacial Glow’ Lipstate honed Noveller into what Pitchfork called “a stronger, bolder voice” giving “each track a distinct theme, telling wordless stories.”
√ Coming off of tours opening for St. Vincent and The Jesus Lizard (something that only makes equal sense for Noveller), ‘No Dreams’ continued to elevate Noveller’s songwriting and soundscaping taking her music to new heights and cementing her as a talent on the rise. ‘No Dreams’ was also originally released as a limited edition on the experimental label Important Records.
√ As a member of both Rhys Chatham’s Guitar Army and Glenn Branca’s 100 Guitar Ensemble, and as a collaborator with the likes of Lee Renaldo and Jim Thirlwell, Lipstate has emerged as one of the most exciting and interesting guitarists of this era.
