Ξ   SÓLSTAFIR are not like any other band. Their sixth album ‘Berdreyminn’ underscores this statement. As its title “a dreamer of forthcoming events” aptly describes, the four Icelanders have taken their already impressive evolution one step further. The band has continued to amalgamate haunting melodies, psychedelic phases, as well as strong undercurrents of classic rock and hard rock with echoes of their metal past. Yet SÓLSTAFIR’s focus is not on style but pure emotion. ‘Berdreyminn’ is eclectic by a conscious choice to make feelings audible and transform taste as well as texture to sound. Genre borders are not broken but simply ignored. Musical influences are gathered from a wide range of sources, re~arranged, and woven into new patterns. Melancholy, longing, anger, joy, pleasure, pain, and other emotions are fuelling & fulling this album. (Retract)
Ξ   “Sólstafir is the transcendent sound of absolution. Berdreyminn is the latest conduit of their unquenchable auditory triumph and sees nerds like me pushing ever harder to understand the incredible travails that this band realizes with seeming ease. A group who seem to get better and more massive in scope with every passing record Sólstafir still have the same undying passion for their artistic vision leaving me in absolute awe.”  — Matt Bacon — Two Guys Metal Reviews

♠   Then, there’s the majesty of Ambatt, which is stompier than the rest and yet never loses its finesse for a single moment and the album wraps up with Blafjall (meaning blue, black mountain), showcasing a strong drumming performance and once more containing the synths that made Isafold such a joy to listen to, allowing for a darkness to spread itself across the song and envelope you in its grasp before delivering the sucker punch of a chunky, RAMMSTEIN~esque riff.
♠   Just as its predecessor, Berdreyminn is going to blow minds, open eyes and feature in many end of year lists, that much is guaranteed. Iceland packs a punch for a country with a population the same as Belfast — the England football team can testify — but SÓLSTAFIR have proved it in an overall more positive, impressive and mindblowing fashion.
