Δ¦Δ "With every album we make we always try to push ourselves to try something new," explains singer/guitarist Scott Stanton. “It was nice to be able to have more time on this record to experiment with other instruments and ideas and play with new sounds, reverbs and tones that we haven't used on previous records. Nathan helped with that on the production side. When it came time to doing the playing and tracking we didn't over think it — just focused on being live in the studio and making sure everything recorded could be recreated live, get the energy of the songs into the live show.”
Δ¦Δ "Canadian west coast rockers Current Swell present their 2014 album Ulysses. Δ¦Δ The 12 tracks on the album perfectly deliver the band's textured, deep–groove sound while capturing the energy of their live show, which has earned them scores of fans across The Americas, Australia and Europe. Produced by Nathan Sabatino (Dr. Dog, Neko Case) at Vancouver's iconic Greenhouse Studios, the album captures every bit of warmth the studio's massive Neve console could provide."

Δ¦Δ Un groupe d'indie rock canadien plutôt énergique... A découvrir!

Δ¦Δ If you’re looking for an album to dance barefoot in the grass to, Current Swell’s Ulysses would make a perfect fit. Having won the Peak Performance Project back in 2011, Ulysses will be Current Swell’s first release since their victory. The album, produced by Nathan Sabatino, was recorded in Vancouver, BC and took 20 days to wrap. Ulysses is the follow up to Current Swell’s 2011 release Long Time Ago, available internationally. Needless to say, this album has been highly anticipated by fans.
Δ¦Δ Ulysses is the epitome of a summer album. The tracks tend to be upbeat and fast–paced, with the few ballads added in giving the album a relaxed feel. While Current Swell is generally deemed a surf–rock band, Ulysses breaks this label by offering the listener a wide selection of genres in the tracks. On Ulysses listeners will find aspects of country, folk, garage–rock, and ballad incorporated into the tracks. However, despite the variety of genre influences, Current Swell stays true to their roots. Ulysses starts off with its self–titled track, a fast–paced surf–rock track that makes you feel like dancing the minute the drums kick in. During this track you can almost feel the sun beating down on your face, and taste the ice–cream you will surely eat too much of this summer. However, while most of the tracks on Ulysses exude summer dancing and fun, Current Swell does slow it down for some of the ballads. Who’s With Us is an example of this, a song that tones it down and opts for a more intimate approach. Who’s With Us is a stripped down version of the classic Current Swell sound, emotionally charged and soulful.
Δ¦Δ Older fans comparing Ulysses to Long Time Ago should be pleasantly surprised to hear that Current Swell has maintained their classic sound while also adding in aspects of other genres to keep the album unique and interesting. Current Swell is definitely a band that knows the direction they want to take musically and is consistent in the quality of work they produce. Ultimately, Ulysses would make a great addition to your next summer playlist. :: http://www.geysermusic.com/
